Well Santa Clarita, Election Day is tomorrow! Since the results last four years, please take just a moment to read the following and consider why you should consider voting for David Gauny to serve on the Santa Clarita City Council.
For the past six years, I have been a passionate leader who has advocated a better strategic plan for growth and a solid plan for business. I remain very concerned about the increasing threat illegal immigration poses for City and County budgets, including public safety, schools and healthcare. I was the only candidate who stood with Councilman Bob Kellar when he called for discussion on this important issue when the incumbents tried to silence the debate. I will continue as his ally in the future.
The incumbents claim that Santa Clarita has a balanced budget but the fact is that the city faces an $800,000 deficit next year, a $20 million lawsuit lost on appeal, and a shrinking budget. We’ve all had to cut spending at business and at home – we need to do the same at City Hall. It is time for honesty, not self-congratulating.
I also believe our city has done too little too late in getting assistance to small business. As a small business owner who personally surveyed over 300 business owners in this campaign, I understand the needs and have a smart plan to keep our business open. I also want stronger support for our Senior Citizen and civic Arts programs – our city is late in all of these areas.
Finally, I am concerned about Santa Clarita’s political process. A Political Action Committee called Citizens for Integrity in Government is allowing massive outside financing of incumbent City Council campaigns while deliberately hiding the list of contributors from our voters. This illegal practice has manipulated our 2006, 2008, and 2010 elections and it must stop. I want more representation and less spin from our elected leadership. I have a rational and smart approach to Santa Clarita’s future that will protect investments of both businesses and homeowners. I am the only candidate endorsed by City Councilman Bob Kellar, the California Republican Assembly, and the Los Angeles Voter Guide. I am also endorsed by KHTS 1220AM and enjoy bi-partisan support from former SCV Democratic Club President Jonathan Kraut, Planning Commissioner Diane Trautman, senior citizen advocates Dr. Gene Dorio and Diana Sevanian, and many others.
Santa Clarita is at the precipice: well-planned city or the next victim of urban sprawl? We need fresh ideas and renewed energy from a leadership that is not beholden to outside interests. Your vote can put People First again in Santa Clarita – Vote DAVID GAUNY on April 13th.
